Fleuroselect is the international organisation for the ornamental plants industry. Its main activities include the testing, protecting and promoting of new flower varieties.
Breeders are constantly striving to develop superior varieties with characteristics that help to increase margins throughout the supply chain and ultimately yield greater consumer recognition, acceptance and demand. This means exciting new colours, extended flowering periods, pleasant fragrances, improved disease and weather tolerance.
In order to support and stimulate the development of new ornamental varieties, Fleuroselect conducts field and greenhouse trials of new varieties entered by members on approximately 30 private Trial Grounds spread across Europe. Through these trials, the newness, the practical use, the quality and the exclusivity of the entries are determined. Genuinely new varieties receive recognition either as Fleuroselect Novelties, Quality Award or Gold Medal winners.
The Fleuroselect Gold Medal is awarded to innovative varieties that clearly surpass the limits in breeding and beauty. This symbolises excellence in breeding. Varieties that are found to be improvements in comparison to existing assortment receive the Fleuroselect Quality Award, symbolising advancement in breeding technology. Many awarded varieties are widely supported and distributed by Fleuroselect members.
Fleuroselect’s Gold Medal Winning varieties are lavishly displayed in more than 50 Public Gardens across Europe, the U.S.A. and Asia. These varieties are the trendsetters of the moment, and represent the absolute top in breeding and beauty. Public Gardens are situated at highly visible, prime locations that are easily accessible and open to the public. They serve to fulfil the goal of educating visitors as well as enchanting them with the beauty and joy of viewing and discovering perfectly bred flowers.
