BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Gerbera originally belongs to the sunflower family (Asteraceae). It was named in honour of the German botanist and naturalist Traugott Gerber († 1743) who travelled extensively in Russia and was a friend of Carolus Linnaeus. Cartwheel® Strawberry Twist breeder Kathryn Verlinden: “I was inspired by the huge range of colour patterns existing in cut flower Gerberas. Nine years ago, we started experimenting with the introduction of cut flower genetics into pot Gerberas. Cartwheel® Strawberry Twist offers the colour explosion of a cut flower Gerbera bouquet to pots and containers for both the home and patio.”
